This Easter is my reminder that it is Five years since my weight loss and fitness journey began. If my story helps only one person, it will be worth it.
I have always being overweight since a child and tried every diet available. I would lose weight and always put it back on with a bit extra!!
Exercise was something i always avoided and still had bad memories of from my schooldays.
After a routine visit to the doctors it was found that i had high blood pressure, not surprising i was working long hours, very stressed eating the wrong foods and drinking too much.
My doctor said i would need to have medication and once on it, that’s it for the rest of your life. Oh and that’s it ,nothing you can do about it!. Having already lost both my parents to Heart Attacks, this was my wake up call.
I booked in for a residential weeks detox and came home with the resolve to change. I remember my hubbys response “hear we go again, heard this before”.
Overnight I gave up alcohol, tea, coffee, all diet drinks, all diet meals, anything with wheat in and any processed food, making all my meals from fresh ingredients.
I also started walking every morning, hubby would drop me off on his way to work and each week i extended it to walk further, going up the hills felt like my chest was going to explode, then i got up without having to stop halfway! I would then run for 10 steps, get my breath back!!! then walk for another 10. I began timing myself and could see an improvement after a few months.
The mornings were getting dark and cold and i had lost some weight so i felt confident enough to be able to join a gym. I traveled 30 mins each way 4 times a week to use the machines and do classes, it was a large gym, very impersonal and definitely not enjoyable towards the end.
Outklass opened in East Drayton nearly two years ago, just when i was looking for some more motivation and guidance for the final part of my journey.
After my assessment with Luke, it was clear we needed to work on my posture ( i was getting a hump on my back), my neck and shoulders were VERY tense and i was also suffering from degeneration of the spin, due to the running.
I have PT’s every week with Neil & James, and have also taken part in circuits, boot camp and recently group sessions.
My journey has being life changing, i have not only lost nearly 4 stone, the last 2 years has seen me maintain this loss, which is the hardest part for most people. I have gone from a size 22 to a 14. I no longer have the hump on my back, my posture has improved and my body has toned up, i am fitter. I look younger and am a far more confident person these days.
I have not needed the blood pressure tablets for the last two years, Outklass is my new drug………… In the form of Neil & James, they keep me positive and motivated at all times. At the moment i am training 4 -5 times a week as i would like to loose a few more lbs for the summer and these guys are working as hard as i am to achieve this believe me!!!!
